New COVID-19 Recreation Facility Entry Requirement: Mandatory Proof of Vaccine and ID for 12+
Please see the following updated information and changes from the Municipality of Clarington

Starting on December 20, 2021, anyone aged 12 and over, regardless of whether they are participating in an indoor sport, will have to show proof of vaccination and corresponding personal identification, to enter a Municipality of Clarington recreation facility.

Children born in 2010 and turning 12 in 2022 will have a 12-week grace period from their birth date to become fully vaccinated with two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine and may be asked to provide proof of age upon entry.  As a part of the screening process we will be asking the ages of children/youth coming into the building, to confirm who needs to provide vaccine verification. Valid medical exemptions will be accepted.

We will be increasing the amount of Facility Screeners in the evening and weekends at certain recreation facilities to ensure we are meeting the increased volume.  We ask the everyone remind their participants and spectators to have the correct documents to enter the building.

  • Vaccine certificate/QR Code
  • Proof of identification
  • Municipality of Clarington’s Online Screening or be prepared to do the in-person screening
    • We cannot accept a team’s online screening or another facilities online screening.

These new protocols have been mandated by Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health as outlined in an announcement and Durham Region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Kyle through a letter of instruction. Read the COVID-19 Fact Sheet to find out how these regulations impact you.

These protocols are in place due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in youth aged 12 to 17 associated with indoor organized sport and the new emerging variants of concern. Please share this information and ask that anyone attending respect these new rules and our staff, who have the difficult job of enforcing them.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
